"I have suffered from chronic neck and back pain for many years. I have tried steroid injections, physical therapy, massage therapy, and medications but none of it has given me long lasting relief from the pain. When I started to practice SomaYoga I learned to breathe properly which was immediately helpful. I also learned how to release tension from my body and how to connect my brain to my body. I feel improvement and realize with discipline and determination that SomaYoga really works. Wendy is a great teacher who cares about people and wants to help them reach their goals and their potential.” -Sue
“I came to Wendy this fall for a super sore SI joint. My pain was so debilitating that I could barely get in and out of a car without wincing and bracing myself. Being fit and a yoga instructor myself I was at a loss. I tried yoga, strength training and chiropractic care. While all of those things helped me, they seemed to act as a bandaid. The pain still returned. After just 6 sessions, I am completely 100% better. I have a new, deeper understanding of my body. It’s been 4 months since I had this pain and it has not returned. I feel confident if it were to return that I would use the tools Wendy taught me. SomaYoga is incredibly helpful. Thank you Wendy!!!” -Catherine
“I have MS and a compression fracture in my T8 vertebra. I had been feeling a lot of pain that stretching and Tylenol were not able to alleviate. As a result of the movements I learned from Wendy I now have much less pain and an overall feeling of calm. I am much less stressed! When I am finished with the practice I feel like I just had a massage and I am able to do it myself! This allows me to do much more in my life without becoming so exhausted. I recommend SomaYoga highly because it is very safe and accessible to everyone. It helps you take care of your body in a way that you can do yourself and it just makes sense. I have extremely tense muscles and if it can relax my muscles it can work for anyone!” -Mary
“I was born with Arthrogrygpsis Multiplex Congenita, which affects all four extremities. I have underdeveloped muscles and stiff joints, resulting in daily difficulties with pain. I recently had a major hip surgery and continued with physical therapy for over a year - very time consuming and exhausting. I felt that I received the maximum benefit and so discontinued therapy. Becoming more frustrated with weakness and pain, despite undergoing a major surgery and physical therapy, I decided to seek out other remedies. When I began adaptive yoga, I was incredibly hesitant. I’ve tried yoga before, but it always ended in disappointment when my body wasn’t capable of even the simplest positions. SomaYoga changed my perspective on not only yoga, but also my body. In only three sessions, I learned more about the way my hips worked and what they were capable of than I’ve learned in 26 years from doctors and physical therapists. I’ve always known that I compensated for my stiff joints and weak muscles, but I did not realize that certain muscles were not relaxing or contracting at appropriate times. By feeling this in my body for the first time, and retraining my muscles, I was able to relieve much of my pain, Now, I walk with a smother gait and without pain. Through SomaYoga, I have been able to access muscles supporting my hip for the first time since surgery, allowing me to further regain the strength I lost. Additionally, as a stressed attorney, SomaYoga has helped me to better control my anxiety and stress through breathing practices. For anyone interested in SomaYoga, it’s important to remember that the experience is going to be different than your typical physical therapy or rehabilitation. It may require some patience and focus, but the benefits are more than worth it. Although doctors and physical therapists absolutely have a place in the treatment of physical conditions, I believe SomaYoga is just as, if not more, important. SomaYoga has taught me about my body, and to listen to what it is needing, rather than simply listening to what others say my body needs.” -Lauren
“In July 2017, I severely broke and dislocated my right femur in a traumatic accident. After surgery, followed by months of recovery and rehab, the bone was healed but I was experiencing ongoing pain, lack of mobility, and general disconnection from my legs and hips. The most important result of my SomaYoga sessions with Wendy is the
reconnection to my body, particularly in the areas of my legs and hips. Wendy guided me in learning how to regain control over these disconnected areas and I began to feel much less pain. The SomaYoga sessions with Wendy helped my leg and hip feel so much better. It was an amazing example of how deeply the brain and body are connected. The feeling of regaining control over my own body was exhilarating and sometimes emotional. I now have daily tools to stay connected and relieve tension and pain. I use the techniques while driving, in meetings, and before bed. I strongly recommend SomaYoga sessions with Wendy for anyone who is experiencing pain or has experienced trauma. From the first session, it was clear to me that Wendy understood that trauma wasn’t something that could easily be fixed, but rather would take time and care to reconnect with my body. I wouldn’t have known just how powerful movement and connection to my body was to my mental health without Wendy’s expertise and care. I feel so much more grounded as a result of my sessions with Wendy.” -Matt
“I was experiencing a lot of pain in the front of my shoulder that prevented me from reaching my arm overhead. It was limiting my movement and affecting my yoga practice. I had tried chiropractic and acupuncture. I very quickly gained more mobility in my shoulder after several sessions with Wendy and I was able to resume my yoga practice. In my yoga practice, I now have improved my form in many poses due to better awareness of the muscles around my shoulders. The results were quick, and have been long lasting. The service didn’t involve complicated movements. Everything was easy to understand and practice. I have learned better body awareness and greater control of muscles that I was not using before. I would definitely recommend the service because I feel like it addresses the source of pain at it’s root and helps create a better mind body connection. The results have exceeded my expectations. I feel that it has corrected bad movement habits that lead to my pain.” -Charlie
